Host Your Own Family Game Night #DipDipHooray

It has been three weeks since my kids have been back in school, and we are finally settling into our new routine. We normally do family game night once a week, but with a group of tried kiddos, we had put it on hold until we all got comfortable with the new schedule.

I wanted to plan something different for our official back-to-school game night, so I planned a Family Game Night PJ Party! Everyone was invited to wear their favorite PJ's to enjoy "Breakfast for Dinner" while we played a new board game of their choice.

The kids were super excited and helped purchase all the groceries with me at Walmart. Ella helped with designing some of the ingredients, while Andrew helped pick out the new Hasbro board game.

We took a little drive out of the way to visit the new Walmart in Foothill Ranch that just opened a new grocery department last month. It turned out to be such a beautiful remodel with a great selection of low priced groceries. You can see all the pictures of the new store remodel and our shopping trip in my Google Plus story.

When planning our festive "Breakfast Dinner" I thought about one of my husbands favorite childhood traditions of when his grandpa would make him fried chicken and waffles for dinner. Since I have never made fried chicken and waffles before, I thought that since Tyson fried chicken is made with 100% natural ingredients that it would be the best choice in serving my family.

I feel that it is so crucial to incorporate some of our childhood memories into raising our children. It opens up an opportunity for us to talk to our children about our childhood while spending time together around the dinner table.

I kept the chicken and waffles recipe simple. I wanted to spend most of my evening at the kitchen table playing games with my children rather than in the kitchen cooking.

Ingredients:

  • Tyson chicken nuggets
  • Mini waffles
  • Toothpicks
  • Syrup
Directions:

  1. Cook the chicken nuggets per the package instructions.
  2. Toast the mini waffles in a toaster.
  3. Stack the cooked chicken nugget on top of the waffle and hold together with a toothpick.
  4. Serve with syrup dipping sauce.
Next I wanted to make a unique twist of breakfast potatoes. Instead of cooking whole potatoes, I used Ore Ida crinkle french fries.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of cooked Ore Ida Crinkle French Fries
  • 1/2 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 chopped red bell pepper
  • 1/4 chopped sweet onion
  • 1/4 cup of crumbled sausage
  • 2 eggs

Directions:
  1. Chop all the vegetables first.
  2. Cook the Ore Ida French Fries in the oven per the package instructions.
  3. Brown the crumbled sausage in a pan until throughly cooked.
  4. Add the onion and cook for about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add the two eggs and cook until the eggs are fully cooked.
  6. Add the remaining vegetables and cook for 1-2 minutes
  7. When the french fries are done, chop them into small pieces. Then add to the mixture and cook for 2-5 minutes.
  8. Serve with Heinz Ketchup.

Once I was done preparing dinner - it was time for some fun! Before we started playing with logged into the Dip to Play website to unlock chances to win prizes. We were able to add the UPC codes from the products we used to unlock the game! This is a fun way to kick-off family game night - so check it out!

We spent the last couple of hours playing the new electronic Monopoly together as a family before ending the evening cuddling together in bed. It was such a memorable evening that we will never forget.
