Spa Week: Chaba Thai Massage & Spa

Last week I went for my first authentic Thai massage at Chaba Thai Massage and Spa in Newport Beach. This was my first time getting an authentic massage from a different culture, so I did feel nervous at first. When I researched Thai massage online I saw a lot of videos of people bending and twisting in awkward positions, and this made me even more nervous. I had gotten myself so worked up about the expectations of this massage that my palms were sweating while driving to my appointment that morning.

Then I walked into the spa.

The beauty from the ornate decorations to the aromatherapy that filled the room immediately calmed my senses alleviating all my stress and fears. I was invited to sit down, and then they carefully removed my shoes slipping my feet into comfortable slippers.

After relaxing in the beautiful waiting room, I was escorted back to a private room for my massage. Every piece of furniture and decoration even down to the light fixtures had been imported directly from Thailand. Every part of the spa is authentic to the Thai culture.

Once in my room, they provided pants for me to wear and I was asked to remove my garments above the waist. While I waited on the oversized bed, I took a moment to reflect on my life while clearing my mind of all the worries and stress.

After the therapist entered the massage room, I quickly learned that I had worried for nothing. The massage did involve a lot of bending and stretching, but it was done in a way that helped to relax all my muscles and balance my body.

I felt all of my stress slowly get massaged and stretched out of my muscles while deeply connecting to my inner senses. The massage therapist uses pressure point therapy along other unique massage techniques.

My favorite technique that the therapist used was the hot Thai herbal compresses. I could feel the herbs soak into my muscles as the therapist applied to my skin with heat and pressure throughout the massage.

It was unique, and the most fulfilling massage I have ever experienced. After my massage, I was offered a cup of warm tea to savor while relaxing. I cannot wait to return to Chaba Thai Massage & Spa for another relaxing and uplifting morning.
